BANDON — A beached gray whale was buried in the sand on the south side of the Face Rock Viewpoint under the direction of the Oregon State Parks service Dec. 28.
The whale was seen in the surf Dec. 26 and later that day washed ashore. Authorities said the whale had suffered a shark bite, but it wasn't known whether that happened before or after its death.
